Travelling for treatment is easier when the practical things are sorted before you leave. Use this checklist with the family member who will be travelling with you.
Documents
- Passports for the patient and everyone travelling, valid for at least six months
- Your visa, and the hospital’s invitation letter
- All your medical reports, prescriptions and scan images, in paper and on your phone
- Insurance documents, if you have cover that applies
- Emergency contacts at home
Health and medicines
- Enough of your regular medicines for the whole trip, plus a few extra days, in their original packaging
- A written list of your medicines, doses and any allergies
- Anything your doctor has asked you to stop or start before treatment
Money and communication
- A card that works internationally, and some cash for your first days
- Tell your bank you are travelling to India
- A local SIM card on arrival makes calls and WhatsApp easier; we can help you get one
Packing
- Loose, comfortable clothes that are easy to put on after surgery
- Comfortable slip-on footwear
- Phone chargers and a travel adapter (India mainly uses type C, D and M sockets)
- Something to pass the time during recovery
For the person travelling with the patient
The companion carries a lot: paperwork, decisions and the patient’s comfort. Plan time to rest, keep a folder of all documents together, and keep your coordinator’s number saved. Ask questions whenever something is unclear; that is what we are here for.
When you land
If you have chosen travel and stay with us, an attendant and an interpreter meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation. Your coordinator explains the plan for the next few days and stays with you through your hospital visits.
